Lenticular print
160 × 120cm

Here, the artist poses the question of the coastline and its utopia. This coveted strip of land lends itself to com mercial trade and constant transit. For many exiles and migrants, it represents a space of survival, a terra firma, an end point – the place – to reach in order to begin a new life. For others, the area is an ideal spot to spend dream vacations, to relax in calm surroundings. This sequence of seven overlaid images brings to life the rhythm of a wave but without its seaward expanse, reflecting the inability to capture a reality now playing out on the open water. It projects the viewer toward an elsewhere, toward the far-off horizon, toward the infinite expanse of the sea, whose absence makes it even more enigmatic and elusive. The movement of the water and the undertow of the waves accompany this encounter with the tides, the variable levels of the seas and oceans, the continuous flow, the to-and-fro caused by the combined gravitational forces of the moon and the sun.
